La Libertad Costa
Playa La Paz is located in the heart of Puerto de La Libertad, nestled just west of the iconic port city pier.
This beach draws crowds of tourists due to the numerous restaurants and lodging options along the water's edge, with options for music and entertainment. The beach also captivates surfers with its unique appeal.
This is a large right-hand rocky-bottom point break, which on particularly epic days can mark the end of rides that start on the famous Punta Roca break next door. On most days, however, La Paz has its own section of perfectly formed, mellow, rolling waves with long lines.
Most surfers in El Puerto start with this wave; beginners find it perfect for building confidence before taking on more demanding waves.
La Paz is a perfect wave for longboards or SUP surfing, with a forgiving takeoff zone and a wide wall that creates an almost dreamlike riding experience. Don't underestimate this wave, though: when massive swells batter the Salvadoran coast from the south this sleepy wave awakens and transforms into a world-class break, with tubes and waves building to 10 feet (3.5 meters).
Thanks to its location at the heart of El Salvador's most famous port city and just 30 minutes outside the capital, La Paz offers unmatched accessibility and provides every attraction imaginable. Dozens of hotels, lodging options and vacation rentals can be found, along with restaurants serving all types of cuisine, transportation, banks, pharmacies and easy connections and access.
Beyond surfing, there are dozens of options for activities and entertainment: park tours, mountain excursions, waterfall hikes, fishing, and motorcycle rentals are all a few steps away. El Salvador's vibrant capital lies nearby, along with the majestic San Salvador Volcano and its curious double crater, El Boquerón.
Getting to La Paz from San Salvador is easy: Take the road to Puerto de La Libertad and turn west upon entering the city. Once past the pier, turn left and you're there.
