San Salvador and Antiguo Cuscatlán
Finca El Espino serves as a green lung for the Salvadoran capital, and is home to Bicentenario Park, essential for mountain biking, walking, or simply taking a break in the midst of the urban environment.
Located on Avenida Jerusalén between San Salvador and Antiguo Cuscatlán, El Espino has a bicycle lane, walking trails, plazas, and picnic areas with grills and gardens. The park's dense forest canopy provides refreshing relief without having to leave the metropolitan area.
The park is home to 420 animal species and 500 wild plant species. It also serves as a stopover for parrots and parakeets as they migrate between San Salvador and La Libertad.
Bicentenario Park represents the metropolitan area's first natural protected area and it was opened on November 5, 2011, the date of the Bicentennial of the First Cry of Independence of Central America, which gives the park its name.
Pedestrian access is free, and visitors can come with their pets and food. If you arrive by car, parking costs $1 from Monday to Friday, and $2 on weekends. The park is open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
