Chirilagua: San Miguel Centro

Las Flores beach is located in the department of San Miguel. You'll discover a stunning small inlet that marks the beginning of a series of rocky points with right point breaks that are perfect for surfing. These breaks stretch on for several kilometers one after another down the coastline of eastern El Salvador.

This area is known as the "Wild East," given its wild, untouched beauty. Now Las Flores is connected by modern roads and highways, although its natural charm and world-class waves remain untouched.

From December to January, this beach offers mellow waves for beginner and intermediate surfers. But when the swells from the south Pacific ocean appear from March to October, surfers need to bring their A-game: the point break fires off waves up to 12 feet (4 meters), with long lines and steep faces that speed over a semi-rocky bottom until reaching the grey sand volcanic beach.

Las Flores is also a breathtaking, dramatic setting. Towering cliffs embrace a pristine beach, with elegant hotels perched on the clifftops.

Visitors can also watch small fishing boats gather at the water's edge as they wait to launch out to sea, or return loaded with their catch at the end of the day. These same boats also ferry surfers and tourists to the rest of the waves and deserted beaches that stretch along the horizon.

Accommodation options abound at Las Flores beach as well as in the nearby town of El Cuco. You can even camp for a more adventurous experience.

Savor the local cuisine with a traditional Salvadoran breakfast of eggs, beans and fried plantains, or indulge in elaborate seafood dishes.

Getting to Las Flores is easy: From San Salvador, take the Pan-American highway toward San Vicente, and then the El Playón road until you reach the coastal highway toward San Miguel. At the El Delirio turnoff, follow the signs toward El Cuco and Las Flores.
