Aguilares: San Salvador Norte

Discover one of El Salvador's pre-Hispanic cities, an impressive ceremonial Mayan center spanning 42 hectares and includes pyramids, platforms, walls, a palace, and other structures.

The city encompasses three distinct areas: a ceremonial center delimited by a surrounding wall, the acropolis where the nobles lived, and a residential district where the general population lived.

During your visit, be sure to explore the walled plaza and pyramids, the structures in the ceremonial center, the archaeological trail, and the site museum featuring exhibits of ceramics and archaeological artifacts found in Cihuatán.

Cihuatán can be quite warm, so wear lightweight clothing and comfortable shoes, as well as a hat, sunblock, and insect repellent. You can bring your own food, as the site features a picnic area and small cafeteria with drinks and snacks.
