La Paz is the birthplace of key figures in Salvadoran history and home to rich coastal scenery and tradition-rich towns in the country's heartland.

In Náhuat, the name means "spring of the little fish," a reference to the many tourist spots built around natural springs, such as Ichanmichen Water Park. The main city is Zacatecoluca, and residents are known by the local nickname viroleños.

Enjoy sunset strolls on the volcanic sand beaches. Costa del Sol, near El Salvador's San Oscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdamez international airport, is a favorite.

The airport provides convenient access to various tourist sites. The picturesque pineapple fields in Santa María Ostuma host the annual Fiesta de la Piña. Near the airport, sample the famous rice pupusas in Olocuilta, where National Pupusa Day is celebrated on the second Sunday in November.

Folk traditions in La Paz have endured through time. The patron saint day is dedicated to the Virgen de la Asunción, held from August 15 to 18. Experience folk dances like El Tigre y el Venado, Toros de Ascensión, and Las Palancas de la Santa Cruz.

Visit the seaside in La Paz for the International Marlin Fishing Tournament at Estero de Jaltepeque. Participants come from El Salvador, the United States, Costa Rica, and Guatemala.
Experience the impressive rivers and striking rock formations in La Paz. San Antonio Masahuat, just twenty minutes away via the scenic Ruta Panorámica, offers sweeping views of Ilopango Lake, San Vicente Volcano, and San Salvador, along with lookout points, cafés, restaurants, and plant nurseries.
