Kayaking, fishing, birdwatching, or just relaxing: the choice is yours at Olomega Lake, between the departments of San Miguel and La Unión. This destination draws visitors from throughout El Salvador and neighboring countries.
Olomega represents eastern El Salvador's largest freshwater body, covering 24.2 square kilometers. The islands of Olomega, Olomeguita, and other islets sit in the middle of the lake. This site was declared a Wetland of International Importance on February 2, 2010, under the RAMSAR Convention.
The rich flora and fauna surrounding the lake create spectacular scenery, particularly for those who venture up the surrounding peaks, known as Nariz del Diablo, La Chirinaca, and La Garrocha.
