In the Nahuat language, Cerro Verde is called "Cuntetepeque," meaning Mountain of Clouds or Mist. Nestled in the department of Santa Ana, 77 kilometers from San Salvador, the drive takes approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes.

Founded by Raúl Contreras and welcoming visitors since 1955, Cerro Verde Recreational Park is part of the Los Volcanes Complex and is a priority area for environmental conservation in El Salvador.

Cerro Verde covers over 37 hectares featuring scenic hiking trails, including "Mysterious Flowers" and "A Window to Nature." Visitors should explore the trail network to experience abundant biodiversity in flora and fauna.

The Cerro Verde Mountain Hotel, administered by Casa 1800, is a special option at this park.

For adventurous travelers, hikes up Izalco Volcano (1,980 meters above sea level) and Santa Ana Volcano (Ilamatepec, standing at 2,381 meters above sea level) will challenge their endurance and hiking abilities.

Cerro Verde also has its own scenic lookouts, playgrounds, and flora and fauna, plus modern facilities including restrooms, parking, coffee shops, a restaurant, and additional amenities.

The Salvadoran Tourism Institute has worked with local guides to offer foreign and local visitors an educational glimpse into this natural wonderland.
