Tamanique: La Libertad Costa

Playa El Palmarcito has emerged as a premier tourism and surfing destination in the past few years.

Just 15 kilometers west of Puerto de La Libertad, El Palmarcito nestles in a protected inlet between two towering cliffs.

El Palmarcito offers a short wave with a right-hand section, sometimes a left, over a semi-rocky bottom that can produce a top-quality wave when swell direction and tides align perfectly.

Traditionally, this was a relatively quiet beach except for private beach houses. Over time, El Palmarcito has drawn increasing numbers of local and international visitors and surfers, with growing options for rental properties, restaurants, and services, especially along the highway.

The beach delivers a relaxed atmosphere surrounded by lush tropical nature and dark volcanic sand.

Swells never reach massive proportions, with waves closing down around 6 feet (2 meters).

Gentle, rolling waves break in the inlet's center, where beginners can master surfing basics.

As typical along the Salvadoran coast, sunshine bathes warm, pristine waters year-round. For more adventurous travelers, camping offers a safe, exciting adventure.

The expansive, level beach provides perfect space for soccer, beach volleyball matches, kite flying, jogging, or soaking up rays with a refreshing drink in hand.

Its proximity to Puerto de La Libertad and El Tunco makes this beach easily accessible. Located at Kilometer 51 on the coastal highway, this spot is near dozens of restaurants and hotels spread across the nearby coastline.

To get there from San Salvador, take the road to Puerto de La Libertad and then the Road to Surf City bypass. Continue west on the coastal highway to Kilometer 51, where you'll find the sign on the El Palmar bridge, followed by the signs for El Palmarcito.
