K61 is the next gem heading west along the Salvadoran coastline from K59.

K61 sees fewer crowds than its famous neighbor, yet delivers quality surf at all tides.

Two distinct wave sections break over the massive rocky bottom that extends into the Pacific. Further offshore, a fast, steep and lengthy wave peels that frequently barrels for intermediate to advanced surfers. That same wave mellows and slows as it approaches the shore, perfect for longboarders, SUP surfers and beginners.

When waves pump too big elsewhere, K61 often delivers gentler yet still incredible sessions, with waves ranging from 2 to 8 feet (0.5 to 2.5 meters). Keep in mind that this beach is blanketed with river stones and the waters harbor sea urchin colonies, so exercise caution when entering the water.

Beyond its quality waves, K61 showcases wild landscapes embraced by mountains and lush tropical forests. Small local shops pepper the area, and Puerto de La Libertad is 30 kilometers away, just a quick bus or car ride for whatever supplies you need.

To get to K61 from San Salvador, take the road to Puerto de La Libertad, then turn right on the coastal highway. Two kilometers after the first tunnel heading west, a small dirt road leads left off the highway to the beach.
