La Libertad
El Obispo Beach is a well-kept secret by local surfers and a wave spot only for those who know. The whole world has its eyes on it but only a few ride this wave that uses the pier of El Puerto de La Libertad as a starting point and momentum, to launch a long, fast, steep, and tubular tidal wave, which breaks to the right down the sandy bottom which only an experienced surfer can handle.
A good recommendation: if it´s the first time you surf it, you should study the wave from the pier platform, calculating the timings between series, entry, and exit points, defining a strategy to ride the waves safely and fun.
During December and January, especially with a little wind coming in from the north this beast can become gentle, fun, and forgiving. It will never stop showing its power.
Being that it is located in the heart of the city of El Puerto de La Libertad, there are dozens of hotels, hostels, houses for rent, restaurants, local handcraft sales, as well as the popular Mercado del Mar which is the access to Surf City, where you can buy all kinds of seafood to eat and enjoy. As a destination in full development, it is a connecting spot for the rest of the country and the neighboring beaches. Visitors will find supermarkets, pharmacies, banks, and other types of basic services.
If you like, you can visit one of the many restaurants lined up in El Obispo beach, which for decades has been a very popular destination for local city tourists, which is only a 30-minute drive from the city to the beach.
Getting here from San Salvador is quite easy. You only have to take the highway to el Puerto de La Libertad, when you get to the city of El Puerto de La Libertad, just head over to the most immediate beach, which is El Obispo.
