Founded by its Lenca tribes, like most of the people of Morazán.

Their name in Poton language means “Way of embers” or “The fire roads place.”

It is a town of cool climate, surrounded by coffee plantations and lush pine forests; friendly and helpful people.

After the Salvadorean civil war, they have developed many tourist options, becoming a major attraction north of Morazan.
